Broken or Chipped Tooth
Repair in Henderson
Chipped or broke a tooth? Save any piece you find and call us, and we tell you what to do right now. A small chip is often rebuilt with bonding, and a bigger break may need a crown, which Dr. Goh decides once he sees the tooth.
After a hit to the face or head, heavy bleeding, or trouble breathing or swallowing, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

Before you get here, four small things.
None of this replaces a call, but it protects the tooth until Dr. Goh can see it.
Keep the piece
Keep any broken piece in a small cup of milk or water and bring it, because sometimes Dr. Goh can bond it back on.
Bring it with youRinse gently
Rinse your mouth with warm water, and if it bleeds, press a clean piece of gauze on the spot for a few minutes.
Warm waterCover a sharp edge
Dental wax from a pharmacy, or sugar-free gum, can cover a sharp edge so it does not cut your tongue or cheek.
Pharmacy waxCold, not heat
A cold pack on your cheek can ease swelling, and an over-the-counter pain reliever, taken as the label says, can help too.
Until your visitHow much tooth is left decides the repair.
A small chip in the enamel is often rebuilt with bonding. Dr. Goh roughens the enamel so tooth-colored resin can grip it, shapes the resin to match, and hardens it with a light.
A break that takes a corner of a back tooth, or runs deep, leaves less tooth to hold a repair. Then a filling or a crown is the repair that lasts, and Dr. Goh shows you why on your own tooth.
Chip, crack or break?
Not every chip is urgent, and what matters is pain, a sharp edge, and how deep the break goes.

Pain, a zing with cold, a sharp edge, or a crack you can see running toward the gum.Go to the ER
A hit to the face or head, heavy bleeding, or trouble breathing or swallowing.
A crack can grow without pain, because it has not reached the nerve yet. A tooth that twinges when you let go of a bite is worth a look, even if it never hurts otherwise.
